David Wins NSF CAREER Award
Our lab is honored that David Lentink won the
NSF CAREER Award from the Division
of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS). The award enables us to use our novel
aerodynamic force platform to study the comparative biomechanics of bird and
bat flight to advance the understanding of the evolution of flight. The award
also supports an in-depth biomechanical analysis of how birds generate
aerodynamic force to lift their bodyweight using their musculoskeletal system. The
outreach activities include offering high-speed cameras to teachers, their students,
and the California Academy of Science to show how animals fly.
