Honorable mention for best student talk
Congrats to Rivers
Ingersoll for receiving an Honorable Mention for his excellent talk in the
Biomechanics student competition at
SICB 2018 In a pixel-perfect talk he
shared the outcomes of his unique field study of 20 hummingbird and bat species
in Costa Rica. His recordings of the aerodynamic force generated by hovering hummingbirds
and nectar bats enabled him to make a rigorous comparison across 100
individuals showing how they adapted and converged on hovering energy
efficiently. Last year Diana Chin also received an Honorable Mention for her
talk on how birds long-jump energy efficiently in arboreal environments. Both
studies highlight our latest discoveries and give new inspiration for
developing more effective aerial robots.
